Disassembly Hanzehogeschool Groningen

The Hanzehogeschool (University) in Groningen is being demolished. The building is an prefabricated construction and covers a total area of 6.879m² and is approximately 10m high. Due to the size of the entire building, we have determined that the total demolition will be executed in phases. This project concerns phase 2, in which Hein Heun Sloopwerken B.V. is concerned.

First a part of the building is disconnected from the existing buildings. The next step is to airframe the building. All material that is dismantled is separated as accurately as possible for recycling and/or possible reuse of the materials.

When the building is airframed, only walls with (window) frames and floors remain. The frames are then dismantled, leaving only steel with concrete floors. First we remove the floor part by part with the help of a crane. After that there is only steel from the walls left. These are cut into pieces and taken to our Hein Heun Milieu B.V. recycling street in Enschede.

If the building is demolished, only the foundation remains. The foundation is broken into large pieces. all the concrete that has been removed from the building is broken by a demolition crane into more common pieces. When all of that is done, the broken pieces are crushed into granulate. The granulate will be used for raising the building site and stabilizing the subsurface so that it’s ready for an possible new construction.

The last thing for us to do is adjusting the foundation piles. These piles must be machined to an agreed depth in preparation for new construction. We also call this headhunting or pile breaking.
