Renovation demolition of monumental pumping station Giethoorn

The monumental pumping station Halfweg in Giethoorn is being renovated. For this assigment, Hein Heun has executed several concrete-, chopping- and breaking work and cutting work. Multiple departments within our organization have been involved in this work. It was a nice challenge to carry out extremely heavy demolition work in a vulnerable building with a monumental status.

Initially, our team started burning so-called snail houses into pieces with the use of a thermal lance. These cast-iron inflow profiles were partially in the concrete construction as part of the pumping station. The tip of the lance becomes so hot that it can melt through metals and almost any other material, such as concrete. The released materials have been transported to an authorised primary processor. The 60 cm thick concrete floor was subsequently demolished by the use of an electric demolition robot.

Finally, our team of concrete driller experts drilled holes in the basement floor for the installation of foundation piles in preparation for the structural work and the team drilled extreme holes with a diameter of 1200 mm for the installation of the new pumping station.
