Recycle-Reduce-Reuse protocol Hein Heun Group
Being active in disassembly, dismantling and demolition for many years, Hein Heun is an expert in the circular demolition process. In this process we are continuously looking for an optimal working climate in which the environment comes first. Hein Heun has set up its own Recycle-Reduce-Reuse protocol to create this working climate and protect the environment. But what does that mean in concrete terms?
Circular demolition
Circular demolition or modern amovating is an social responsible way of developing sustainable areas. At the Hein Heun Group, recycling and environmentally conscious working methods are paramount. Circular means that we collect material type Y from location X and ensure that material type Y can be reused. This method of demolition is also called reverse construction. We limit the amount of (residual) waste to a minimum and carefully consider all released materials in detail.
Amovating
By amovating in a modern way, we create a win-win situation for both the environment as our clients. To implement this method, we have several specialized teams at Hein Heun that can carry out all kinds of demolition activities with expert knowledge. Through years of experience and specialism in all kinds of areas, from bridge demolition and the dismantling of entire industrial sites to sunken ships, we know better than anyone how we can reuse the released materials for new purposes in a socially responsible manner.
Reuse of building materials
From the construction sector, in the last ten years the attention to the reuse of building materials after disassembling, dismantling and demolition work has increased. Released materials such as construction products or product compontents are directly reused or recycled into high-quality secondary raw materials by qualified sorting and recycling companies. For Hein Heun it is essential to optimally adapt and coordinate the supply and demand of demolished materials and materials that would have been marked earlier as residual waste.
Hein Heun 2022 environmental targets
Of all the construction and demolition waste (consisting of building materials such as concrete, wood, steel, bricks, sand and limestone, aluminium, plastic and asphalt), a relatively high percentage of 85-95% is already being reused. That percentage is higher than the EU target of 70% in 2020. Still Hein Heun sees room for improvement in terms of quality. Therefor we’ve committed to offering over 95% of all released materials from specialistic (total)demolition, disassembly and dismantling activities for reuse by 2022. Hein Heun has set up the Recycle-Reduce-Reuse protocol to achieve these goals.
The protocol
Our organisation continuously wants to develop and build for the future. Therefor we have established the Recycle-Reduce-Reuse policy. In this we characterize that this method comes first for us and by including various companies (clients, subcontractors and partners) in this method we create awareness and we take good care of the environment and the climate. In addition, with this protocol we are fully committed to the new possibilities for the recycling of materials and we are working non-stop on optimizing waste flows.
The protocol subscribes that our employees receive instructions about the object to be dismantled. Our project supervisors are keen to implement these instructions and supervise that these are executed properly. All released materials are sorted, stored and disposed of separately. After the materials have been removed, they are processed for reuse or we offer them to certified third parties. For example, the suspended ceiling panels are ground and processed into new ceiling panels, steel and / or steel-like and aluminium materials are melted down into a reusable product, concrete and stone (like) materials are broken into granulate and processed in the concrete industry, wood is reused for the chipboard industry and plastic is completely recycled into new products. The released demolition materials are processed by certified chain partners.
