Chromium (VI) oxide or chromium trioxide (CrO3) is a hexavalent oxide of chromium and the anhydrous form or anhydride of chromic acid (in practice the two names are often used interchangeably). Chromium-6 is a harmful substance, unlike its brothers Chromium-0 and Chromium-3, and causes, among other things, asthma, kidney damage or in serious cases even cancer. Chrome-6 is released when spraying with chrome-containing paint or by sanding, grinding, sawing or heating the painted surface. Dust containing chromium-6 then enters the air.
